POSITION TITLE: Senior Analyst – Transportation Analytics
REPORTS TO: Sr. Manager – Transportation Analytics
American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) is rapidly transforming its supply chain as customer behavior patterns shift. As more customers shop online, AEO needs to build a supply chain infrastructure that can service its stores as before, get to more online customers faster, and do so in an economical way. As a Lead Analyst on the Transportation Analytics team, you will play an integral role in enabling AEO’s distribution network to achieve an expedited, secure and consistent experience for our customers (stores and digital). You will be responsible for identifying, measuring and seeking out improvements in order to achieve our Transportation network goals. You will create or develop KPIs and leverage customer feedback tools in order to identify areas for opportunity across our order fulfillment network. You’ll partner with various teams to develop the proper requirements and data structures to increase the visibility for such stakeholders. You will partner with your manager and other stakeholders to take the insights to appropriate action. You are expected to be an analytical thinker that takes delight in writing SQL queries (or Python/R code) while being able to explain the work in a simple language. You will inspire your team and lead efforts to deliver sound results; exceeding customer expectations, optimizing spend, delivering innovation while being part of a strongly engaged team.
Your responsibilities:
- Developing and identifying opportunities that would help sustain or enhance the network speed at lower costs
- Use programming tools to create visual and optimization models that would support the sales and operations teams with initiatives.
- Be an experimenter: spend time understanding data structures and stakeholder requirements to translate into a report, insight or tool that can lead to an actionable outcome for the company; innovate on improvement opportunities
- Performing a wide variety of data analyses in various formats, using different applications, and extracting data from various data warehouses and repositories. You will turn data into useful information and daily/weekly reports
- Performing daily analysis of operational metrics and producing reports that will indicate the level of daily compliance with prescribed plans; this will be in the form of plan versus actual performance.
- Formulate data-driven analyses & ad hoc deep-dives to enable supply chain visibility & timely strategic business decision-making; use advanced statistical/analytical/modeling approaches in order to provide insights to AEO’s supply chain, transportation and delivery network demonstrating subject matter expertise to assist others in digesting the output of models
- Periodic monitoring of service levels and carrier productivity through recurring report generation. Identification of compliance issues in a timely fashion that impact customer promise.
- Monitoring and identifying opportunities for cost reduction in the network, partnering with the operations team to drive implementation of said recommendations
- Partnering with supply chain strategy leadership to develop baseline customer promise metrics to document benefits and impacts of projects and initiatives.
- Assist with the establishment of a data driven culture - always questioning using anecdote-based-statements and proving/disproving theories/assumptions through data
- Strive towards quick turnarounds – don’t make perfection the enemy of progress
Experience required:
- Data driven, analytical thinking; ability to apply mathematics / analysis to quantify problems and impacts made by improvements to process
- Strong experience with Microsoft Excel, intermediate skill level preferred
- Knowledge of SQL, Python, R, Tableau tools highly desirable. Passion to do deep data analysis.
- Strong analytical, prioritizing, social, problem-solving, & planning skills and highly organized.
- Effective verbal and written communication; soft-skills to interact with DC leadership team as needed.
- Self-starter with a proven ability to handle multiple tasks, motivated by a dynamic environment.
Education & Experience:
- Masters degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain/Logistics, Optimization or Statistics
- 2+ years of experience in data analysis roles
